OFIR

BIOGRAPHY
Ronit Ofir Engel is a charismatic songstress, a multilingual actor, a captivating dancer and a vibrant poet.
Original in style and passionate in performance, the Israeli-born artiste is seeking to become an A-list talent in Toronto, building upon her previous successes in Israel and in New York. Trained in voice, dance and acting, Ronit has worked in television, radio, and film and on stage in both dance and theatre.
I'm a creator and a dreamer, a performer, and a writer of songs and poetry,” says Ronit in explaining her multi-talented persona. “I’m into the vibe of the universe. I view life as a magical journey that allows us to create great moments, to touch hearts, to explore who we are, and to contribute as much as we can to others.”
Those are lofty and inspiring sentiments, but – like Ronit’s songs and poems – they come straight from the heart. She has already won international acclaim as a songwriter. In June 2004, her entry, “The Passion Show,” was a finalist in the pop category of the Song of the Year competition, an international contest that encourages the art and discipline of songwriting. A jury of Grammy Award winners and other music-industry professionals judged the submissions.
“The Passion Show” was also a finalist in the dance category of last year’s UK Songwriting Contest, which is dedicated to promoting the art of songwriting and the discovery of new talent. Meanwhile, another of Ronit’s songs, “Outrageous,” captured semi-final honors in the same competition. This year, she is concentrating on attaining a recording contract for the first CD of her songs.
Ronit has had a variety of roles in film and television. Her movies have included Howard Stern’s Private Parts, Israeli director’s Amos Gitai’s Haalila, and James Gray’s The Yards. Her TV work has included an appearance on an episode of Sex and the City. She also was the concept creator, screenwriter, starring performer of "The Unfortunateller," an original comedy aired on television (MNN)
In addition, Ronit is a gifted poet. She won the Editor's Choice Award, from the International Library of Poetry and the International Poets Society, in March 2005 for her poem "secret admirer." She was a semi-finalist in the International Poetry Competition in February 2003 for her poem "brilliant silence" and 2006 semi award for her poem “soul sound speak”
Ronit is a member of the Toronto Musicians Association, the Guild of International Songwriters & Composers and the Israel Union of Performing Artists. She is an affiliate of the International Federation of Actors. Fluent in English and Hebrew, she is also comfortable singing in French, Spanish and Arabic.
This high-voltage diva is quick to volunteer when a worthy cause touches her heart. When the December 2004 tsunami struck south East Asia, she immediately responded by organizing a month-long campaign to collect toys for hospitalized children in the devastated region. She even persuaded the midtown Toronto café that served as the drop-off location to offer free beverages to anyone who donated four or more stuffed animals.
Ronit is eager to appear in charity productions, having entertained sick children (and organized a stuffed-animal drive for them) in Israel and performed at a Veterans’ dance music show in N.Y. Ronit’s name comes from the Hebrew word ranan, meaning song or joy. How apt – for someone whose songs are indeed a joy!
